Not that the Velvet Undergound could possibly be more influential, but I think more people might dig them if they had put out a few more tracks like Curtis Harding's cover of "Here She Comes Now." Harding covered the track for Burger Records White Light/ White Heat compilation and replaced the original's slow, introspective feel with a hollering gospel stomp, adding in a few horns for good measure.

Check out the cover over at SPIN.

In the most obvious of Velvet Underground news, lead singer Lou Reed passed away earlier this year and has been inspiring tributes, vigils and other such memorials ever since. Spotify even released the perrenially cool musicians final playlist, showing that Reed was still insanely with it.

Before he passed, Reed gave high marks to Kanye West's album-of-the-year favorite Yeezus in a piece he wrote for the The Talkhouse. Claiming that "each track was like making a movie" and comparing it to his own divisive Metal Machine Music, Reed seemed to have quite the fondness for West's latest.

Burger's White Light/White Heat drops on cassette (hey, they're a small label) on December 10.
