Last night's episode of Scandal ended with a massive shocker and contained about a dozen or so other shockers before that. And with the midseason finale next week, it's likely only going to get crazier.
WARNING: DO NOT READ AHEAD IF YOU HAVE YET TO WATCH THE LATEST EPISODE OF SCANDAL!
So we found out that Olivia Pope's mother isn't an innocent victim after all and her father was actually trying to protect Olivia by locking up her mother for 22 years. Which is too bad, because President Fitz just helped her escape the country on a military chopper. The Vice President also killed her husband, Cyrus' marriage is imploding and Quinn got tortured (by Huck!) and may or may not have killed Rowan.
Katie Lowes, who plays Quinn, told E! Online that her character has forever been changed by the experiences in last night's episode, particularly because Quinn and Olivia are family to her. Lowes added that she did not sleep for three and a half weeks once she got the script for the episode and said she has never been challenged and pushed so much as an actress.
As for the future of the show, here's what Lowes had to say about how the Olivia's mother situation affects the characters:
"With Olivia's mother returning to her life, what does this mean for the Gladiators?
Well, I think it means a whole hell of a lot. We deal with conflict and we deal with scandals all the time. We've dealt with scandals with Olivia's personal life and we've kind of become an old hat at that, but to be dealing with her family is a whole other level. It's a new piece of the onion that we are peeling back as to who Olivia Pope is, her history, what her backstory is, and it brings her relationship with Olivia Pope and Associates and all the people who work there to a whole new level because we have to see this vulnerable side of Olivia."
