The glowing Daft Punk song "Instant Crush" from the French electronic duo's most recent album Random Access Memories has actually received a full-length music video. The official visuals debuted today (Dec. 5) after a series of teases, and depict an emotional love story without having to show any actual emotional humans.
Daft Punk, who are known for obscuring their own appearance with robot masks, are masters of crafting art without faces and do so in "Instant Crush." Starring Julian Casablancas (Daft Punk collaborator and lead singer of The Strokes), the music video features two wax statues in a museum who manage to fall in love across the hall. Plenty of longing glances are exchanged (though there are no other kinds in their case) as the two grow deeper and deeper in their affection.
Eventually, the waxy figures are separated, as the Julian Casablancas figurine is taken in to storage. Before then, though, the statues share one last loving look from outside their separate cases.
The two struggle to reunite and it seems like happiness is on the horizon, until an unexpected electrical fire may doom them forever.
Meanwhile, the human version of Casablancas sings his heart out, writhing about on a separate soundstage.
As for Daft Punk? The duo don't actually appear in the video themselves. However, their signature helmets can be seen in several shots in the storage room.
