In terms of "oopsies", this is pretty big. The Hives failed to adjust the canned stage banter that they invariably throw out every night (give or take a few plugged in keywords) and ended up dedicating their track "Tick Tick Boom" to the city of Boston, a town which you may rememer was a victim of a terrorist attack during its biggest annual event earlier this year.
According to Boston's CBS affiliate, The Hives were opening for Pink at the TD Garden when singer Pete Almqvist said ""This song's for everyone in Boston. It's about stuff blowing up. It's called 'Tick, Tick, Boom.'"
The Hives have since taken to Facebook to apologize for the mishap.
About last night: I wanted to dedicate a song to the Boston crowd because they had been so great throughout the show, and unfortunately Tick Tick Boom was the next song in the set. The tragic Boston Marathon bombing never once crossed my mind while on stage, and of course it should have. My most sincere apologies to the people of Boston for this unintentional but serious mistake.
Accused bomber Dzokhar Tsarnaev is currently facing federal charges that, if found guilty, could result in the death penalty.
