Fans of Ol' Dirty Bastard wait no longer. After months of miscommunications and a failed screening, Raison Allah's documentary on the life of his cousin ODB is finally ready for public viewing.
The NuHo Film Festival and the Estate of Ol' Dirty Bastard have resolved their legal issues and released the documentary entitled Dirty: Platinum Edition online.
The NuHo Film Festival originally planned to release Dirty: Platinum Edition at an AllHipHop-sponsored film screening at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The screening was scheduled to take place on Nov. 15 but due to a cease and desist order issued by ODB's Estate, the film was prevented from being screened.
The event was scheduled to coincide with what would have been Dirty's 45th birthday. The owner of the festival, Chris Kanik, had a few choice words for ODB's family, too.
"November 15 was supposed to be a day to memorialize ODB and all his accomplishments in hip-hop," Kanik said in a phone conversation with XXL. "Unfortunately his family would rather exploit his likeness for a quick payday rather than helping build his estate's value. They're looking for a handout rather than building some sort of value for ODB."
ODB's daughter, Taniqua Jones, fired back saying:
"They [NuHo Film Festival] didn't want to work with us... We just want respect and everybody to come and know that this is who you work with and that's it. But you have people out there who just want to do [things] the opposite way. I don't know, it doesn't make sense to me because you're just going to be shut down or sued."
Well we're glad they got that under control before the situation got any messier. Dirty: Platinum Edition is now available to stream at NuHoFilmFest.com.
