The last two Star Trek movies were written and produced by writing team Roberto Orci and Alex Kutzman but it looks like the latter is stepping away from Star Trek 3, which opens the door for two new writers. Orci is teaming with J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay on this new film and the release date that they want will fall on the 50th Anniversary of the series.

The Hollywood Reporter broke this story. Here is an excerpt:

The duo will join Roberto Orci, who co-wrote the first two installments of the reboot with partner Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof. Orci is working without Kurtzman on this one.

The next Star Trek film is untitled and unscheduled, but Paramount and Skydance are hoping to have a film in time for the franchise to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2016. Stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana are expected to return.

Some of us may already know that director J.J. Abrams won't be returning as director for the third installment, but there have been favorable names circulating around the project. One of these names i Joe Cornish who directed Attack the Block

Abrams will be busy directing Star Wars Episode VII during the filming of Star Trek 3

With this brand new writing team coming together, should we be worried about the next Star Trek movie? We already lost the director so this movie seems to be moving in the wrong direction. Though we won't really know until it hits theaters in 2016.
