Detroit Loins star RB Reggie Bush may have been a little too anxious to get back on the field. Coach Jim Schwartz was planning on having Bush available to play Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles but that quickly came to a halt when Bush aggravated his calf during pregame warmups.
"Reggie's been dealing with a calf injury that has been hampering him this week," Schwartz said following Detroit's 34-20 loss. "He was able to get out there on Friday and practice, and I thought he was going to be able to go (Sunday). In pregame warmups, he aggravated it and wasn't able to go."
Bush, who is one of three starters to either not play or leave Sunday's game due to injury, declined to speak to reporters after the game.
Lions right tackle LaAdrian Waddle left the game in the first quarter with an elbow injury and did not return. Schwartz says Waddle was available to come back but he decided to stick with Jason Fox over Waddle. His reasoning was because Fox was completely healthy, while Waddle was not.
Waddle didn't seem too concerned about his injury after the game either.
"I'm not too concerned," Waddle said. "I'm not too worried about it."
Defensive end Ziggy Ansah injured his shoulder in the second half. Schwartz said Ansah was not available to return to the game. No official word was given on Ansah's future status.
"He hurt it during the game," Schwartz said. "We'll see. It doesn't look like it's long term, but we'll have to see."
