The television drama Friday Night Lights ended in 2011 and went out as one of the greatest shows in television history. Still, fans clamored for more, and the hope of a sequel movie has lingered ever since. Until now, that is.
Peter Berg, who directed the 2004 Friday Night Lights movie (which was based on the same book as the show but not connected directly to the TV series), has pretty much killed the idea of a movie. He told Collider that an FNL movie is more or less dead:
"There's not gonna be a movie. We talked about it, some people thought it was a good idea, some didn't; I've come to believe it's probably not a good idea and I seriously doubt it's gonna happen."
The new film would have followed the lives of Coach Eric Taylor and his wife Tami Taylor after the conclusion of the Friday Night Lights TV series. Kyle Chandler, who played Coach Taylor, had reportedly been apprehensive about doing the movie, while Connie Britton aka Mrs. Coach seemed to be more on board. Regardless, Berg seems to have moved toward not doing it and the project is apparently dead. The eternal optimists among us, though, can point to the fact that he only said "seriously doubt it's gonna happen," which means an ever-so-slim chance remains.
The series ended with Coach and Tami moving to Philadelphia so Tami could pursue a job as a college dean. The finale brought closure to nearly every major character and ended the series as well as one could hope.
