Nominations for the 20th annual SAG Awards were announced Wednesday morning, and the choices aren't unexpected. With four nominations each in their respected categories, 12 Years a Slave and Breaking Bad are the most recognized for the upcoming awards.
Other films that will be competing with Steve McQueen's compelling story for best cast (among its other nominations) will be American Hustle, August: Osage County, Dallas Buyers Club and Lee Daniels' The Butler. On the television side, Breaking Bad is the frontrunner for nominations, coming in with four, 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, Homeland and Modern Family were each given three nominations. Arrested Development, Downton Abbey, Veep and miniseries Behind the Candelabra, Downton Abbey and Top of the Lake were given two nominations.
TV has made an impressive transition from simple, easy-to-watch programs into an era of epic series. Breaking Bad is a standout testament to that. AMC brought in five nominations, and HBO, which has continued to do amazing work, takes the most of any network with 13 nominations.
Netflix's genius move to provide a collection exclusive binge-worthy series has continued to pay off, giving them three nominations, including one for Kevin Spacey for his performance in House of Cards.
The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, Jan. 18and will be simulcast on TNT and TBS live at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT from the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles.
