Scandal executive producer answers Season 3 midseason finale questions

Has everyone recovered emotionally from the Scandal midseason finale that aired last night? Has everyone made peace with the fact that we won't have another new episode until Feb. 27? Okay, then let's get into the good stuff.

The shocking episode had numerous twists and turns and ended with the bombshell that Olivia Pope's mother, Maya, somehow snuck her way back into the United States and was right outside the White House when she called her daughter. We also discovered that Maya fooled Olivia's father, Rowan, into giving the order to shoot down a plane full of civilians for no reason.

Scandal executive producer Betsy Beers talked with TVLine about the midseason finale but, unfortunately, did not reveal anything about this situation in the upcoming episodes other than "I know some of the things that are coming up, and they're really good."

Huck also seemingly fired Quinn from Olivia Pope and Associates after she tried to come back to them. The question remains, though, if Huck was speaking on his own or for Olivia. "The only thing that I took away from that was that this is Huck's position," Beers said. "Huck feels like he's speaking for the office, but whether or not he is, is another question."

Beers also addressed Quinn's new relationship with Charlie.

"One of the delightful, and slightly terrifying, things for me in the past few episodes has been the relationship that's developed between Charlie and Quinn," Beers said. "The things in her that horrify Huck, he supports and nurtures, because he sees her in a very different way. Their scenes together are incredibly entertaining."
