MStars reported on Thursday that a USA Today article implied that Don Cheadle would return The Avengers: Age of Ultron. The article points out that the actor just wrapped up work on the latest season of his Showtime series House of Lies and then "has a part to film in the next Avengers movie."
It's important to note that Cheadle does not directly say anything about Age of Ultron in the article, which focuses on the actor's reaction to his second consecutive Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy Series. But now, two different websites have reported that Cheadle will, in fact, be back in Avengers 2.
First, Bleeding Cool reports that Cheadle and his character, Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes aka War Machine aka Iron Patriot, "are certainly on the docket for the sequel." The site does not have specifics on the role but goes on to say that "There's not going to be too much fat on the structure of Age of Ultron, so Whedon will have put in Rhodey for a good reason."
HitFix later confirmed that War Machine "has a key role in the conflict with Ultron that is the main focus of the sequel."
Finally, Bleeding Cool also reports that Simon McBurney is up for a role in the movie but the site did not confirm if he has officially signed on, is in negotiations or is simply attached to the project. The site also did not confirm which role he would play, "though I have been told he'll be the new Jarvis. Not a computer voice Jarvis, mind you, but an actual butler called Jarvis - or at least called Jarvis by Tony Stark."
