Showtime's 'Penny Dreadful' Teaser Trailer: Eva Green stars as one of literature's scariest characters w/ 'The Orphanage' director making first episodes of 2014 season

Showtime just released a teaser trailer for its new series Penny Dreadful, premiering in 2014. This new horror series takes on a classic literary character that has become synonymous with nightmares and demonic stories. The upcoming new series stars Josh Hartnett, Eva Green, Timothy Dalton, Reeve Carney, Rory Kinnear, Harry Treadaway, Billie Piper and Danny Sapani.

Some of literature's most terrifying characters, including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the novel Dracula -are lurking in the darkest corners of Victorian London. PENNY DREADFUL is a frightening psychological thriller that weaves together these classic horror origin stories into a new adult drama.

Clearly we all have chills from that short clip, right? This show definitely looks creepy and that tagline ("We All Have Our Demons") is definitely terrifying in the context of that clip. What should we expect from Eva Green in this new show?

Well our next hint that this show will be terrifying is that Juan Antonio Bayona will direct the first two of the eight episodes for season one. If you're not familiar with this director, he helmed The Orphanage, which is considered a modern classic horror film.

This seems like a really promising new show for Showtime. Perhaps this is the replacement for Dexter?
