Daft Punk and Kendrick Lamar are both nominated for Album Of The Year Grammy awards, so it makes sense that the Academy would ask them to perform some of those year-defining tracks. Still, it's nice to see the robots and K-Dot getting one of the biggest stages in all of music.
Rolling Stone broke the story of Daft Punk's performance, which wil be their first live performance of any material from their latest album. The band famously eschewed the chance to tour behind their massively successful release, citing an inability to recreate the album's many guest contributions and studio sonics live. It will be interesting to see what sort of tricks DP pulls to create a live version of "Get Lucky", "Lose Yourself To Dance", "Instant Crush" or "Doin' It Right." Basically, expect surprise guests in the duo's first live performance since 2008.
Kendrick revealed his Grammy performance on Twitter with the following:
Jan. 26, 8pm. I'm performing @TheGRAMMYs on @CBSTweet #GRAMMYs
— Kendrick Lamar (@kendricklamar) December 19, 2013
Kendrick will be joined by "worst song of all time" candidates Imagine Dragons in what I'm hoping won't be an unholy mish-mosh of big festival drumming and "Money Trees."
