Looks like Amazon has decided to join the group of retailers boycotting Beyonce's latest album.
Beyonce recently released her fifth platinum album with no prior marketing and exclusively on iTunes.
The visual album features 14 tracks accompanied by 17 videos for each track plus three bonus tracks. The album was reportedly only sold digitally on iTunes to prevent leaks and any gossip on Beyonce's big surprise.
Once Bey successfully released the album, she decided to make it available as a physical copy and that didn't sit well with some retailers. Amazon is the latest jumping the bandwagon.
Amazon will not be selling Bey's album in the physical format, but it is available for digital purchase. The site has the album available via Amazon's third-party sellers, but has not received any "prime real estate" on the site. So basically if you want the new Beyonce album you are going to have to look for it.
Target was the first to boycott the sale of Beyonce's album. The retailer says they won't sell the album because it hit the digital ground first and could have a poor impact on in-store sales.
That makes sense, right?
Target spokeswoman Erica Julkowski had this to say:
"While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyonce in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyonce's new self-titled album Beyonce."
Not exactly hard feelings.
