The last several weeks have seen a flurry of news about Zack Snyder's 2015 Man of Steel sequel, still known for now as Batman vs. Superman. First came the news that The Fast and The Furious actress Gal Gadot would play Wonder Woman in the movie. Then came the subsequent fan backlash and Amy Adams' defense of the Israeli actress.
Rumors also arose that Jason Momoa of Game of Thrones fame could be up for a role in the movie. Several names have also been floated for Lex Luthor, including Denzel Washington, Idris Elba, Joaquin Phoenix and more. In addition to that, we now have some more news about the costumes for the two most iconic DC superheroes.
Both Batman and Superman's suits will be redesigned somewhat for Batman vs. Superman. Michael Wilkinson is the costume designer for the movie and has the task of creating a Batman costume for Ben Affleck that differs from the ones Christian Bale wore in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. He also must design a new outfit for Gadot as Wonder Woman.
Wilkinson gave an interview to Cinemovie.tv about the costumes he created for David O. Russell's 1970s period piece American Hustle, and he gave some information about the process of costume design for Batman vs. Superman. He revealed that he is, in fact, "tweaking" Henry Cavill's Superman outfit from Man of Steel, so expect a slightly different version from the one in Snyder's first movie.
He also updated fans on how far along the crew is in the process of crafting the costumes:
"We are now in the stage where we're refining out designs with the last series of camera tests and doing our final tweaks in preparation for shooting."
The costumes are almost done, so expect more news (and hopefully some photos) about the designs in the near future. The movie begins shooting in Detroit in Feb. 2014.
