Supernatural Season 9 spoilers for 'Road Trip,' the first new episode of 2014

Take comfort, Supernatural fans. The Season 9 Hellatus is almost over. The show returns on Jan. 14 with its first new episode of 2014 entitled "Road Trip" and the official episode description offers some juicy spoilers for the next episode.

Fans will remember that the midseason finale, "Holy Terror," ended with the revelation that Sam had been possessed not by Ezekiel as everyone had previously thought, but by Gadreel, the angel who allegedly let the serpent into the Garden and basically caused the whole "evil" thing to happen. Gadreel killed Kevin Tran (Osric Chau) as part of Metatron's (Curtis Armstrong) plan to rebuild Heaven with Gadreel as his right hand man.

Dean was too late to save Kevin, Gadreel took off in Sam's body and Dean was left in tears on the floor of the Men of Letters' bunker. And things are only about to get more complicated when the show returns in January. Check out the official episode description from the CW:

"DEAN'S BEST CHANCE OF SAVING SAM LIES WITH CROWLEY - Dean (Jensen Ackles) is devastated after Kevin's death and vows to find the angel that killed him, not only to free Sam (Jared Padalecki), but to seek revenge. Castiel (Misha Collins) arrives at the bunker and suggests they try to separate Sam's brain from the angel's so they can talk to Sam and have him expel Gadreel. However, there's one small problem: the only person who knows how to do that is Crowley (Mark Sheppard). Robert Singer directed the episode written by Andrew Dabb (910)."
