The rumors of an X-Men vs. Fantastic Four movie have been swirling for a while now, and with good reason. The year 2013 was a big one for the Fox mutant franchise with the strong box office performance of The Wolverine, the ever-growing anticipation for X-Men: Days of Future Past and the announcement of X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016, move Wolverine solo films and an X-Force movie that would expand the X-Men film universe.
We also learned in 2013 that Chronicle director Josh Trank would lead the Fantastic Four reboot for Fox in 2015, and rumors of potential cast members arose multiple times throughout the year. Names included Miles Teller (21 & Over) for Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Allison Williams (Girls) for Sue Storm/Invisible Woman and Michael B. Jordan (The Wire, Friday Night Lights, Fruitvale Station) as Johnny Storm/Human Torch.
But what about the plot of this crossover movie? The site Bleeding Cool pointed to a report by investing punditry website The Motley Fool, which reported that Fox has planned a movie based on the 1987 comics Fantastic Four vs. The X-Men; however, it's important to note that The Motley Fool has retracted its original story without any accompanying explanation.
Initially, the site reported that "the movie will see the characters against each other because of secrets regarding the Fantastic Four's origin."
Any crossover movie would likely not happen until after the Fantastic Four movie on March 6, 2015 and possibly after X-Men: Apocalypse on May 27, 2016.
