That old saying "sex sells" may need to be altered. The first day of marijuana legalization turned out to be a huge success. According to Colorado's 9 News, the state's pot shops brought in over $1 million!

Supporters came out for the historical day to buy marijuana legally for recreational purposes. In Perth, Australia, headlines say "Move Over Amsterdam."

Fans of the herb didn't mind waiting out in the wintry weather either.

Andre Barr, who drove from Michigan to witness the history, said, "It's a huge deal for me. This wait is nothing."

But there are some skeptics of the whole ordeal. Some believe that wider availability to pot would lead to greater illegal use by youth, and possibly more traffic accidents and addiction problems.

A total of 24 shops opened in Colorado on Wednesday (Jan. 1). Most of the shops opened in Denver.

Colorado residents must be 21 or older to buy marijuana in Colorado. State regulators were on the prowl making sure people underage weren't able to get their hands on the pot.

As of late, Colorado has a slew of pending applications for recreational pot retailers, growers and processors. With that said, it's hard to tell how prices would change more people enter the business, increasing supply and competition.

But apparently, pot sells.

What do you think of being able to legally buy marijuana for recreational purposes in Colorado? Do you think this is a good idea? Do you think other states will follow suit?
