Looks like New York is on its way to joining the growing number of states who have legalized medicinal marijuana.

Governor Andrew Cuomo will unveil his initiative sometime this week. In the initiative, the governor will announce that New York will become the 21st state in the United States to allow the medical use of marijuana.

Cuomo's plan includes allowing certain hospitals to dispense marijuana for certain medical problems such as nausea from cancer chemotherapy and glaucoma.

The announcement is scheduled to be made by the administration on Wednesday.

Cuomo has made a complete 180. Previously, he was totally against medicinal marijuana. But Cuomo and his administration ensures that New York's laws will be a lot more restrictive than those in states like Colorado and California. Marijuana laws in these states tend to be more liberal. In fact, Colorado recently opened a slew of pot shops that legally sell marijuana for recreational use.

A total of 24 shops opened in Colorado on Wednesday (Jan. 1). Most of the shops opened in Denver.

Colorado residents must be 21 or older to buy marijuana in Colorado.

The pot shops seem to be doing well so far. They brought in a total of over $1 million on the first day of operation.

Nonetheless, this is a big move for New York. It's only a matter of time before more states have a change of heart. Wonder who's going to be next.
