This week starts the beginning of production on season eight of Doctor Who and BBC has released an on-set photo of the new Doctor, Peter Capaldi. Accompanied by his companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman), this is the look at Capaldi's first episode in the iconic role. Ever since his role announcement in August of 2013, we've been waiting for this day!
"New job, first day, slightly nervous," Capaldi said on set this week. "Just like the Doctor, I'm emerging from the TARDIS into a whole other world."
We first saw a glimpse of Capladi and his eyebrows in the 50th anniversary special episode, "The Name of the Doctor," and then we experienced Matt Smith's regeneration into the older actor in "The Time of the Doctor," which aired on Christmas 2013. This marked the start of Capladi's reign.
"First the eyebrows! Then, at Christmas, the face! Coming soon, the whole Doctor," executive producer Steven Moffat proclaimed. "In the Cardiff studios, the Capaldi era begins."
Last month, Doctor Who star Jenna Coleman spoke a bit to Digital Spy about what Capaldi would bring to the role and the show.
"It will be a different show next year," the young star said. "We have a bit of a gap before we start filming the new series, so I have time to get my head around it all. Me and Peter will get together before Christmas to start rehearsing and the scripts will start coming in."
"He's going to be so different to Matt," Coleman added.
