Lucasfilm has officially hired a Story Group to come up with a secure canon for the upcoming Star Wars movies and the Expanded Universe. What this means for those not familiar with the entire Star Wars universe is that this group of writers will attempt to bridge the gap between books, comics, movies, and all other forms of Star Wars media ensuring a cohesive storyline throughout.
This news broke on Twitter when Lucasfilm's Leland Chee announced he and Pablo Hidalgo were part of the Story Group. Check out Chee's Twitter announcement and his answers to some tweets right here:
@pauldunahoo @rwknopp Star Wars Canon is now determined by the Lucasfilm Story Group which @infinata and I are both a part of.

@StephenVincent More so than ever, the canon field will serve us internally simply for classification rather than setting hierarchy. — Leland Chee (@HolocronKeeper) January 6, 2014
@12MG12 @StephenVincent That's definitely a primary goal of the Story Group.

@theonlysanz That I can't say. — Leland Chee (@HolocronKeeper) January 6, 2014
This might not be that exciting to those not interested in canon, but this might have a huge affect on the upcomming Star Wars: Episode VII coming out in 2015. Now the Expanded Universe could play a part in the plot even though earlier reports suggested it wouldn't!
