Beyonce husband Jay Z '12 Years a Slave,' 'The Butler,' grab NAACP Image Awards nominations

It has been a great year for African Americans with black-oriented films, music, and so much more, nominees for the NAACP Image Awards include 12 Years a Slave and Lee Daniels' The Butler, and superstar Beyonce.

Fruitvale Station, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and The Best Man Holiday are the other nominees for outstanding motion picture, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People announced Thursday, Jan. 9.

Beyoncé, her husband Jay Z, Justin Timberlake, Janelle Monae and Bruno Mars are among nominees for this year's NAACP Image Awards in the music category, broadcasting on Saturday, February 22 at 9 p.m. on TV One channel.

According to the site, the history of the NAACP Image Awards, honors diversity in the arts, and celebrates the outstanding achievements and performances of people of color and those who promote social justice. There are five categories, which includes Motion Picture, Television, Recording, Literature, Writing / Directing.

Other nominees include best movie actor category, Chadwick Boseman for 42, Chiwetel Ejiofor for 12 Years a Slave, Forest Whitaker for Lee Daniels' The Butler, Idris Elba for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and Michael B. Jordan for Fruitvale Station.

One category that viewers will be ready to see is the outstanding actress nominees, which includes Angela Bassett for Black Nativity, Halle Berry for The Call, Jennifer Hudson for Winnie Mandela, Kerry Washington for Tyler Perry Presents Peeples and Nicole Beharie for 42.

In the outstanding supporting actor category, nominees were announced to Cuba Gooding Jr., David Oyelowo and Terrence Howard for Lee Daniels' The Butler and to Howard and Morris Chestnut for The Best Man Holiday.

The Honestly Hour reports that Roslyn M. Brock, chairman of the NAACP said, "This has been an incredible year from the artistic community, with phenomenal contributions across the board from the music, television, motion picture, and literature genres that have the power and impact to drive social change."

Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars will battle it out for the outstanding male artist category, while Beyoncé, Janelle Monáe and Mary J. Blige will be the award of the night as the ladies will find out who wins the outstanding female artist category.

Mrs .Carter also grabbed a nominee for outstanding documentary for Life Is But a Dream.
