Eight teams remain in the playoffs. The Colts defeated the Kansas City Chiefs during last week's Wild Card game.
The Colts currently snag the no. 8 spot in Russell S. Baxter's NFL power rankings for Bleacher Report, ending the regular season with a 12-5 winning record:
"Obviously, it takes more than just luck to overcome a 28-point third-quarter deficit to win any football game. Then again, having a lot of Andrew Luck always helps. The second-year quarterback overcame three interceptions by throwing for 443 yards and four touchdowns as the Indianapolis Colts rallied from a 38-10 third-quarter deficit to stun the visiting Kansas City Chiefs, 45-44.
"He kept telling us, even at 38-10, 'We're going to win this game,'" said left tackle Anthony Castonzo to Bob Kravitz of IndyStar.com.
"Andrew kept saying, 'Stay with me, stay with me,'" added right tackle Gosder Cherilus. "He willed us to this win.''
The teams combined for 1,049 total yards, the most ever in a postseason game, and the 89 points made it the third-highest-scoring playoff game in league history. Along with his four scoring passes, Luck was also Andrew-on-the-spot when teammate Donald Brown fumbled on his way to the end zone. The alert quarterback grabbed the ball and lunged into the end zone for a touchdown that narrowed Kansas City's lead to 41-38 early in the fourth quarter. Luck's 64-yard scoring toss to wideout T.Y. Hilton with just over four minutes to play and the subsequent PAT gave the Colts the lead for good... So what does this mean going forward as Pagano's team prepares to take on the New England Patriots in the divisional playoffs? The Colts did give up 44 points and 513 yards of total offense. However, one thing is for sure (we think). A team that committed a league-low 14 turnovers during the regular season can't afford to give up the football four times again and still expect to win."
Meanwhile, the Patriots hold the no. 5 post-season spot, ending with a 12-4 winning record:
"If it's the NFL playoffs, it must be the New England Patriots. Bill Belichick's team is in the postseason for a fifth consecutive year, tied for the longest current streak in the league. Dating back to 2001, the Pats are in the playoffs for the 11th time in 13 seasons. While those first three trips in 2001, 2003 and 2004 all resulted in Super Bowl wins, there's been a championship drought for the league's reigning dynasty. However, these current Patriots have been playing the kind of football that used to result in nail-biting Super Bowl victories. New England has won seven of 11 games decided by seven points or less. And for all of quarterback Tom Brady's struggles this season, only the Denver Broncos (606) and Chicago Bears (445) have scored more points than the Pats (444) in 2013. Defensively, it has been another rough year for this club. Even minus defensive tackle Vince Wilfork and linebacker Jerod Mayo, the team has managed to hold its own. It is worth noting that the Pats have won their last two games by a combined score of 75-27. And the five times that the team has reached the Super Bowl since 2001 came in the years when Belichick's team had a first-round bye. And this Saturday night at Foxborough, they're hoping for a little bad Luck when the Indianapolis Colts come calling."
