Zack Snyder's Man of Steel sequel, currently known as Batman vs. Superman, was originally scheduled for release on July 17, 2015, but Warner Bros. announced in a press release on Friday that the film has been pushed back to May 6, 2016.

"We share the fans' excitement to see DC Comics' most popular figures, Superman and Batman, together on the big screen for the first time, which will now be arriving in theaters in May 2016," Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution, said in a press release.

Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, the president of international distribution for Warner Bros., added:

"We know that there is already great anticipation building for the next Super Hero [sic] film from Zack Snyder, and we are equally eager to see what he has in store for Superman and Batman as they share the big screen for the first time ever."

The studio told TheWrap that the decision to push the movie is to "allow the filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story."

Interestingly, the studio has decided to push the movie back to a weekend that is typically dominated by DC Comics' chief competitor, Marvel. The Avengers, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3 and Spider-Man all opened on that weekend, and an unnamed movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is also slated for that weekend in 2016, which means Batman vs. Superman would be in direct competition with Doctor Strange, Iron Man 4 or whatever other film the studio has planned.

Fox will also release X-Men: Apocalypse (Marvel properties released by Twentieth Century Fox), on May 27, 2016.

What do you think, fans? Are you disappointed by the news, or do you think it would benefit the movie in the long run?
