Drake performed double-duty as the host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live this week. Typically that means two things: terrible sketches and great musical performances. Luckily for the audience, Drizzy came through with only half of those, evoking the "JT exception" and delivering some halfway decent bits around a live performance of "Hold On, We're Going Home", "Trophies", "Started From The Bottom" and "From Time."
Drake kept it simple performing "Started From The Bottom" and inexplicably hyped Hit Boy cast-off "Trophies" all alone on a blacked out stage under a red spotlight.
He did eventually share the (now-blue) spotlight with Jhene Aiko during his run-through of "Hold On, We're Going Home" and "From Time."
Drake clearly used the blue to signal, his sad downtempo Nothing Was The Same tracks while red was reserved for the aggressive bangers (personally, my favorite kind of Drake). Hopefully, this will lead us to refer to his works in critical discussion as blue-period and red-period Aubrey (it won't).
