The wealth of superhero movies (specifically Marvel characters) that have flooded movie theaters in recent years has allowed fans' imaginations to run wild. The success of movies such as The Avengers, X-Men, The Amazing Spider-Man and more have led fans to wonder what it would be like for any or all of these characters to share the screen together as they do in the pages of comic books.
But former Marvel Studios executive Avi Arad, who remains a producer on Marvel's various films and has focused on Sony's reboot of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, recently told Total Film (via Comic Book Movie) that a crossover between Spider-Man and The Avengers would probably not be the best idea:
"I for one don't see the value for us in it. I think we're doing such a good job with the Spider-Man Universe. Spider-Man is arguably the number one character in the world. He shouldn't make a cameo."
By "for us," Arad likely means that the various studios would have to split the profits (and the publicity) with the other franchises and studios. He then backpedaled somewhat and hinted that it could only happen if there was "a natural alliance for some reason...I cannot talk for Sony."
Fellow producer Matthew Tolmach then chimed in and pointed out that the logistics of such a crossover would be extremely difficult:
"The practical side of it is, look, how many movies have we just talked about? It's all we can do to build that universe. We're not going beyond that."
What do you think, comic movie fans? Would you want to see a super-crossover movie? Do you think the logistics would prove too difficult? Let us know in the comments below.
