While promoting her new show Klondike at the bi-annual Television Critics Association press tour, actress Abbie Cornish found a new friend: a nine-week-old shepherd mix puppy. This young female dog was at the same event at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena for the same reason as Cornish. The pup was brought out to the event to help promote Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl but ended up getting adopted!
"I instantly fell in love with her," the star of the upcoming Discovery channel miniseries said of her new friend. "She is such a beautiful and gorgeous bright light."
Though Cornish didn't end up taking home the little puppy herself, she told her brother Hayden and his fiancée, Amanda, about her. The next day, Hayden and Amanda went to Adopt & Shop in Lakewood, California, where the puppy had been living. Now named Ivy, the puppy was adopted by the couple and Abbie is sure to visit!
"You know when an animal is right for you: The connection is strong and undeniable," Cornish said. "There are so many animals in shelters and adoption centers that need loving homes."
Meanwhile, Cornish recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about her new miniseries, Klondike.
"Belinda was a very striking, strong woman and I felt honored by the idea of stepping into those shoes," Cornish said about her character. "It's a character that you don't read often. It felt like a challenge. It didn't feel like a walk in the park -- it felt like an honor."
