Director Joe Wright, best known for his films Pride and Prejudice and Atonement (among others), is currently getting started on his next movie - an origin story of Peter Pan entitled Pan. This time around, the Neverland hero is facing off against the infamous pirate Blackbeard, but the character of Pan's nemesis, Captain Hook, is still involved. In fact, Tron: Legacy star Garrett Hedlund was this week reportedly offered the role of the hook-handed villain!
Deadline reports:
Garrett Hedlund has come away with the offer to play the lead role of Hook in Pan, the new take on the J.M. Barrie classic that Joe Wright is directing for Warner Bros. This was a coveted role and it came down to Hedlund and Boardwalk Empire's Jack Huston (currently in American Hustle), with Ezra Miller from The Perks Of Being A Wallflower also in the mix.
Personally, Jack Huston would've been an amazing choice, but Hedlund has the chops and the draw to really help out the film in his own way. Do you think Gerrett Hedlund is a good choice for the menacing Hook? Let us know in the comments section below!
Hedlund was most recently in 2013's hit Coen Bros. film Inside Llewyn Davis and is set to star in Angelina Jolie's Unbroken coming out in December of 2014.
As far as the other pirate in this film and the movie's antagonist, Blackbeard, rumors are naming Hugh Jackman as the main choice for the role. You can read more on that news HERE!
