The 90s nostalgia trip that is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be revived in 2014 when a new franchise, appropriately titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, hits theaters later this year. But the film has already given some fans reason to be concerned, and this latest news could be no different.
Firstly, Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes production company are behind the project, which alone gave fans reason to worry (though it shouldn't). Jonathan Liebesman, who directed Battle Los Angeles, will helm the film, and fans weren't too happy with that choice, either.
Word then spread that the movie would feature a much different origin story for the turtles (it involved aliens) and that the title would not contain the words "Teenage Mutant." But those concerns have since been mostly alleviated, as the origin story will now more or less line up with the original, and the title does have "Teenage Mutant" in it.
Some fans are still quite nervous, and this latest information might only make that worse. TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles.com posted this picture of a Halloween costume that could reveal what the turtles would look like in the movie:
Does a Halloween costume equal a movie costume? Not necessarily, but the idea becomes more believable when you add in the unofficial description (via Screen Rant) of a TMNT toy line inspired by the film:
"Michelangelo's costume sounds like the most modern of the bunch: "a hoodie wrapped around his waist, pants and sneakers with the toes cut out, wrappings on his hands and forearms, a necklace (could be puka shell beads?) and his mask ends drape down to his chest."
William Fichtner (The Lone Ranger) will play Shredder, but the toy line description does him no favors, either:
"Pointy edges coming off of absolutely anything. He'll be the stuff of ridicule for some time. Very overcomplicated outfit."
What do you think, TMNT fans? Are you excited or nervous (or both) for the movie? Let us know in the comments below.
