In 2013, the developers at Bohemia Interactive released the video game DayZ. This was a new take on the zombie, horror survival gaming structure and because of that it won the award for Best Hybrid MMO and as well as the IGN's People's Choice Award. But the fact that its name was relatively similar to one of the biggest names in music almost caused some legal trouble for the developers.
According to a recent "Ask Me Anything" session on Reddit featuring DayZ creator and developer Dean "Rocket" Hall, rapper Jay Z had his lawyers ask Bohemia Interactive to change the name of the award-winning video game from DayZ to ZDay.
"Jay-Z's lawyers tried to get us to stop using DayZ and change it to ZDay, actually [sic]," Hall explained in his "AMA" session. "We declined. But it did make me laugh."
Do you think Jay Z had a good reason to try to get this video game's name changed to something else or was this just a ridiculous request?
The standalone version of DayZ has yet to be released, but this "AMA" session allowed gamers to find out more on it before the release.
When one Reddit user asked about the game having greater in-game goals to aim for while playing, Hall revealed some great hints as to what to expect.
"Yes, this kind of endgame stuff is quite key to what we want to do," he said. "However, in order to do this we have to perfect the architecture which is what we are doing now. Certainly I think underground bases and advanced vehicles will allow some of this really exciting and 'Eve' style play."
