So, it's currently the dead of winter in New Jersey. Will it snow on Super Bowl Sunday (February 2nd)? Perhaps... in fact, there's a huge chance that is will. Oh, and MetLife Stadium doesn't have a dome... therefore, NFL officials have deemed this the first-ever outdoor, cold-weather Super Bowl in league history. But what if a blizzard blows through... will the Big Game get rescheduled?
Another huge possibility.
Super Bowl XLVIII kickoff is currently scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 2nd at 6:25 pm EST. But reports confirm that the NFL has officially scheduled contingency plans just in case - the game could be played any time between Friday (Jan. 31) - Monday (Feb. 3).
But that's preparing for the worst case scenario in regards to inclement weather. According to Yahoo! Sports, "A storm of massive proportions would have to be in the forecast for the league to make those contingencies a reality." NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced earlier this week, "We are embracing the weather... Football is played in the elements."
So far, the weather forecast for East Rutherford, NJ next Sunday is a high of 40 with a 30 percent chance of rain or snow. But as most Northeasterners know, that "forecast" could change by the hour.
Here's what some Twitter fans are saying about the rumored "Big Game date change" -
@Alaalalala96: "You can't change the dateof @SuperBowl. It's Super Bowl SUNDAY. Not Monday. Not Saturday."
@SharkeyShyster: "The #SuperBowl may have a date change. This means my guacamole may turn black."
@jolaurit: "The date of the Super Bowl is 'subject to change.' Now who's the genius who decided it should be outdoors in a place where it usually snows?"
@CriscoConnor: "They're going to change the date of the super bowl, i'm not watching the super bowl on a wednesday after school... #SuperBowlXLVIII."
@zosodragon1969: "Super Bowl date subject to change... Duh! Anyone surprised that winter game would have weather issues?"
@Jpalatchi: "The notion that the Super Bowl may have to change it's date because of weather concerns is ridiculous." @MollyHas: "Only morons would schedule the @SuperBowl on the east coast in an uncovered arena. #SB48." @redeyesportschi: "Ready for Super Bowl... Monday?"
What do Mstars readers think about Super Bowl Friday? (Or Saturday... or Monday...).
