Jason Moore's 2012 comedy Pitch Perfect focused on a group of college girls who perform in a cappella competitions together. There was plenty of humor and tenderness along the way, of course, as they grew into friends and reached their goals. The movie performed well enough that Universal Studios has announced plans for a sequel in 2015, and a new report has some big news for Elizabeth Banks.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Banks, who played one of the announcers at the a cappella competitions in the first film and who also produced the movie, will make her feature film directorial debut on Pitch Perfect 2. Banks has directed a few short films in the past, but this would be her first turn in the director's chair of a major film. This makes sense given that she is so familiar with the material already, so it could be a smooth transition for her.
The article also notes that lead actresses Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are likely to come back for the sequel, though this has yet to be confirmed. The studio will likely do all it can to get the two back, as Kendrick's performance of "Cups (You're Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone)" went viral after the original film's release and almost went triple platinum in sales. Wilson is also a rising star who also had roles in Bridesmaids and Pain and Gain before she got her own television series, Super Fun Night.
