Captain America: The Winter Soldier has not even hit theaters yet (it will do so on April 4), but Marvel Studios may already be planning ahead for the next Captain America sequel.
Variety reports that Marvel is so impressed with the work done by directors (and brothers) Anthony Russo and Joe Russo on Captain America 2 that the studio wants them to come back for the third movie, which it has not officially greenlit yet. According to the article, positive results from Captain America: The Winter Soldier test screenings have also played a role in the studio's decision.
Variety notes that negotiations would not start until after the second movie hits theaters, but Marvel and the Russo brothers "are already putting together an outline of what the third film's story arc would look like." Furthermore, Chris Evans would return as Steve Rogers after he appears in The Avengers: Age of Ultron aka The Avengers 2. Other cast members from The Winter Soldier, including Emily VanCamp and Frank Grillo, could also return in future installments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The site did not report a release date, but the untitled Marvel project set for release on May 6, 2016 could be it if Marvel decides to go head-to-head with DC and Warner Bros.' Batman vs. Superman.
It's important to note that Marvel has typically changed directors for its sequel films, with Joss Whedon (The Avengers) and Jon Favreau (Iron Man) as the exceptions.
