Actor Jude Law showed up in court this week to testify in a phone and e-mail hacking case against the now-defunct New of the World. He came to give his testimony against the media outlet with regards to some personal information about his then-girlfriend Sienna Miller having an affair with Daniel Craig. Though Law assumed this information was stolen, he found out in court this week that one of his close family members told the press this story.
Reuters reports:
Film star Jude Law told Britain's phone-hacking trial on Monday he was not aware a close relative had been paid to leak stories about him to Rupert Murdoch's now defunct News of the World tabloid. During dramatic testimony at the trial of two of Murdoch's former editors, a shocked Law was passed a note with the name of a close family member he was told was selling details to the paper at the time it printed stories about his ex-girlfriend Sienna Miller and her affair with James Bond actor Daniel Craig.
"I was made aware very recently that there had been some kind of communication with this person and several others in and around and about this period of time," Law said of the betrayal of his family member. "I was never aware any money had been exchanged."
Always a tabloid favorite, Law's testimony against the media outlet continued: "I would say that after the Oscar nomination there was a lot more interest in my private life, it raised my profile in the media. My marriage ran into difficulties around 2001 and 2002 and the media took an interest and they reported on it quite regularly."
