Boxer Floyd Mayweather received a lot of social media backlash after his alleged $10 million dollar bet on the Denver Broncos against the winning Super Bowl Seattle Seahawks went down the drain in a devastating loss Sunday night.
In an Instagram post the boxer said in the caption, "Somebody lied to you all. If I was going to bet, I would have bet on the Seattle Seahawks. I'm the best defensive fighter, it's only right to go with the best defensive team."
On the picture itself, Mayweather wrote, "Congratulations Seattle Seahawks for winning the super bowl! For the record, I did NOT bet $10 million on The Broncos. As a matter of fact, I didn't bet at all. I can't control what rumors that are put out there [sic]. Good or bad publicity keeps me relevant. The only thing I would bet $10 million on is MYSELF. From the looks of my record, I'm a guaranteed WIN!!!"
Fans tweeted after the Seahawks win seemed imminent:
@Keem_Music tweeted, "Floyd got everybody talking about that 10 mil bet.. Now that the SB is over he bout announce his next opponent.. #Genuis."
@MySecondEmpire tweeted, "I'm informed that the Floyd Mayweather story is fake. My bet on his future bankruptcy remains real."
@THE_Dan_Patrick tweeted, "After tonight's bet, I guess Floyd Mayweather is finally gonna schedule the Pacquiao fight."
