Hoffman's longtime life partner Mimi O'Donnell is taking the actor's sudden death very hard. Reports confirm that O'Donnell "screamed out in despair" when she found out the tragic news.

The couple began dating back in 1999. They have three young children together - son Cooper Alexander (born 2003) and daughters Tallulah and Willa (born 2006 and 2008).

Now, the family's left to mourn the shocking loss of a loving boyfriend and father. An alleged insider for ShowBizSpy reveals, "Mimi is inconsolable. He had his problems, but she thought he was on the road to recovery following his recent rehab stint. Mimi already had a tough few days, after the recent hoax that claimed Philip had died. She will have to stay strong for the sake of the kids."

Hoffman fell victim to the infamous online "celebrity death hoax" not too long ago.

And on Sunday, the "Almost Famous" star's lifeless body was reportedly found with a needle sticking out of his arm, lying next to bags of heroin. Just another morbid example why such viral death hoaxes are NOT funny in the least.

But according to the Daily Mail, Hoffman and his longtime costume designer girlfriend had actually just broken up prior to his death. A source within the NYPD explains that "it was understood" the two had recently "split up." Another resident of Jane Street (where Hoffman and O'Donnell shared their home) said - "He did not look well recently - like he was out of it... I think him and his woman friend were off and on. He lived down here for a long time and was well liked, but everyone knew he had substance-abuse problems."

Hoffman began renting an apartment by himself on Bethune Street in October.

O'Donnell was "seen visibly upset yesterday as she went to the block of flats where his body was found" (via The Mirror). Whether they were broken up or not, O'Donnell and Hoffman still shared and cherished a full life of love and memories together.

Whatever the case surrounding Hoffman's devastating death, may he rest in peace. Stay tuned as more details develop.
