Super Bowl 48 featured a matchup of the NFL's top-ranked defense in the Seattle Seahawks against the league's top-ranked offense in the Denver Broncos. Many expected a back-and-forth battle between Richard Sherman's Seattle defense and Peyton Manning's Denver offense. Except none of this mattered all that much, as the Seahawks blew out the Broncos, 43-8, in a completely one-sided affair.

The disaster for the Broncos started on the first play of the game, when the snap sailed over Manning's head and Seattle tackled running back Knowshon Moreno in the end zone for a safety and a 2 -0 lead 12 seconds into the game, the fastest score in the history of the Super Bowl.

From there, it went from bad to worse, as two Steven Hauschka field goals, a Marshawn Lynch touchdown and a Malcolm Smith 69-yard touchdown return gave Seattle a 22-0 lead at halftime. Percy Harvin then returned the opening kickoff of the second half 89 yards for a score, and Russell Wilson hit Jermaine Kearse for a 23-yard score near the end of the third quarter for a 36-0 lead.

Things got so bad for the Broncos that, of course, fans and media on Twitter began to openly mock the team. A Twitter handle called @HasDenverScored popped up and simply tweeted "No" and then "Darn it" when Denver finally broke through with a 14-yard pass from Manning to Demaryius Thomas with no time on the clock in the third quarter.

It wasn't all bad for Denver, though, as Thomas broke a Super Bowl record with 13 catches in the game. Sure, they still lost by 35 points, but at least there's an interesting historical footnote.
