The character of Quicksilver (Evan Peters) in X-Men: Days of Future Past is one of the more interesting members of the film's roster. Much has been made of his costume and look in the movie, which some fans have criticized. But the character actually replaced a different mutant in the film.

Bryan Singer sat down with Empire Magazine (via Comic Book Movie) to discuss Days of Future Past and the magazine asked him if he added the character to the movie in response to Joss Whedon's casting Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver in The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

"Quicksilver was always in our script," Singer said. "Marvel were informed early on that I was using him. The way it'll play out in our movie versus what I believe they are going to do is so different. And this is not an enormous role - he's only on one beat of the movie."

The magazine describes that "one beat" as a scene in the kitchen of the Pentagon in 1973 in which Quicksilver helps young Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) break into the building to help break out young Magneto (Michael Fassbender). A guard enters the lift to feed Magneto, but is shocked to see Quicksilver suddenly appear in the corner with a smirk on his face.

The interesting note is that "[Screenwriter Simon] Kinberg had originally employed a young Juggernaut in the same function," Singer said in the article. He does not state, though, if Quicksilver replaced Juggernaut early in the writing process or at a later point.

Finally, Peters notes in the magazine that Days of Future Past will address Quicksilver's filial connection to Magneto, which Age of Ultron cannot do because of Fox's ownership of the X-Men franchise.

"Everybody's so slow to him, it gives him an attitude," Peters said. "He's a little impatient. When [Magneto and Quicksilver] first meet, there's a cool, 'Do I know you?' moment."
