Naughty Dog's wildly successful treasure hunt adventure video game series Uncharted has had a film adaptation in the works for quite some time. After director David O. Russell left the project to direct American Hustle, fans were worried that it would be scrapped. But now a new director has been named to the project: Seth Gordon!

Deadline reports:

Sony Pictures Entertainment is negotiating with Seth Gordon to direct Uncharted, the live-action adaptation of the top-selling PlayStation video game series Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. This brings the Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief helmer back to his origins, where he helmed the celebrated documentary The King Of Kong and immersed himself in video game culture ... The most recent script of Uncharted is by Safe House scribe David Guggenheim, and the studio was hot enough on that draft that they set him to write Bad Boys 3.

If you're not familiar with this gaming series, there are only a few things you need to know. The first chapter of Uncharted follows treasure hunter Nathan Drake as he tries to track down the fabled riches of El Dorado. This charismatic wise-cracker is met with plenty of opposition as a cast of characters comes into play on his journey.

Now that Gordon is on-board, he and producers need to cast the main character as well as the supporting roles. When O. Russell was involved, he wanted Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci in supporting roles behind Mark Wahlberg as Drake. This caused outrage from fans (the Wahlberg part), but luckily we have another chance to cast the fan favorite character.

Production is allegedly starting in 2014, so stay tuned for updates!
