Director Joss Whedon and others in the Marvel camp have repeatedly pointed out that the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier aka Captain America 2 would tie directly into The Avengers: Age of Ultron aka The Avengers 2. Now, Disney CEO Robert Iger has also spoken up about the films' link.

Iger told investors on Wednesday (via ComicBook) that the newest solo Cap movie would "set critical events in motion" that will lead directly into Age of Ultron, as well as events that would influence Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Iger also praised the movie, which he said he has seen several times.

"I've really been impressed with the early buzz that we're seeing for the Marvel films," he said. "Captain America 2 is just huge and it takes the Captain America story to incredible new levels. Now, we're already in the marketplace with some marketing, but it's been relatively limited. We had a pre-game for instance in the Super Bowl. And yet the interest in Captain America films, which comes out April 4 here in the states, seems much louder than it would be for what I would call a non-branded film."

Iger obviously is not going to put down such a high-profile project that his company owns, but it's still encouraging to hear him add to the already solid word of mouth that has been percolating about this film for the past several months. He also did not state what those critical events are, but some previous reports have said that HYDRA is behind the entire plot of the film, which could introduce Baron von Strucker to set up Age of Ultron.

Another report claims that the after-credits scene would introduce Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, who also play a role in The Avengers 2.
