For some Thursday was a night of tears, and for Jay Leno he tried to hold back the tears, as he said his final farewells to the Tonight Show.
The funny man has been the host of the hit NBC show for 22 years, making the joke that he started his career on the show before "Justin Bieber was born." Some guest of last night's farewell included, President Obama, sending a TV goodbye, Tyler Perry, Oprah and Kim Kardashian.
President Obama even cracked a joke telling Leno that he was glad he didn't have makes "jokes of him anymore" and sending him a new job as the "Ambassador of Antarctica."
For more than two decades Leno made people laugh saying, "I dont like goodbyes...NBC does..."
Tyler Perry told Leno he should "reinvent himself," turning the host into a Jay Leno version of Madea.
The 63- year-old says he will continue to do stand ups. Leno who took over the Tonight Show after Johnny Carson quoted him in his tearful goodbye.
"It's fun to kind of be the old guy and sit back here and see where the next generation takes this great institution, and it really is. It's been a great institution for 60 years. I'm so glad I got to be a part of it, but it really is time to go, hand it off to the next guy. It really is," Leno stated.
"And in closing, I want to quote Johnny Carson, who was the greatest guy to ever do this job. And he said, 'I bid you all a heartfelt goodbye."
Leno talked about how he lost his mother the first year of the show, and how his father passed away the next year, then his brother. He said that the producers, cameraman, fans and other staff had become his family.
Leno received thousands of text, calls, tweets and Instagram photos from fans, and celebrities. His rival, Jimmy Kimmel said, "Issues aside, 20 years at #1 is a remarkable achievement," Kimmel posted Thursday. "Congratulations and best wishes to @jayleno on an incredible run."
The First Lady, Michelle Obama also sent her love.
A lot of Leno fans even laughed and actually loved Kim Kardashian's singing. We wonder if North West mother is trying to become a singer.
It was a night filled with good laughs, tears, and memories to a man who made millions laugh, we say "So long, farewell" Jay Leno.
