MStars has learned that former Saturday Night Live star, Chris Kattan, was arrested for suspicion of DUI Monday morning. He totaled his luxury car, and failed a field sobriety test.
According to the NY Daliy Post, Kattan was making "spontaneous comments" about prescription drugs, when police arrested him.
The comedian was driving his Mercedes Benz on the 101 Freeway in Los Angeles at in the early hours of Monday morning, when he crossed a barrier of orange cones and flashing signs, crashing into the cushioned back of a maintenance vehicle, authorities reported.
"We had received one or two 911 calls reporting a Mercedes Benz was weaving all over the road at slow speeds," CHP spokesman Leland Tang stated. "The vehicle in question subsequently entered a construction work zone and collided with the rear of construction truck with a foam cushion on it."
Tang reported that Kattan, 43, suffered minor injuries which included a bloody nose from his airbag deploying.
"He passed a breathalyzer in the field, but he did not pass his field sobriety test. He did not do well walking heel to toe," Tang said. "Luckily those trucks were there to provide a safety cushion for the CalTrans personnel doing guard rail repair. It was a crash buffer that did exactly what it was supposed to do, and it probably saved his life."
CBS covered the story, and showed Kattan losing his balance and stumbling to the side during his field test. See footage here.
Tang also stated that Kattan was arrested under a new law that sends drivers to jail, when they are under the influence of drugs, instead of alcohol.
"We believe there's a high probability he was under the influence of prescription drugs, based on his spontaneous comments. He submitted to a chemical test, and we'll know for sure in three to four weeks."
Kattan was booked and released from jail around 7 a.m., according to the online booking records.
"Those concerned or just adding gossip: I'm fine, passed all tests, released without bail, have drivers license, cop offered to drive me home," Kattan stated on Twitter after being arrested.
"I just got back from a 15hr flight after touring out of the country," he tweeted. "I was exhausted. The Police were so kind. I'm lucky nobody was hurt."
