Cristin Milioti is best known to the general public for her role as The Mother on the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother and for her work opposite Leonardo DiCaprio as his wife in The Wolf of Wall Street. But the actress, who until recently had not had much mainstream exposure, seems to be taking off, as she just landed her next role.
EW.com confirms that Milioti has been cast in one of two lead roles in Rashida Jones' (Parks and Recreation) upcoming pilot for NBC entitled A to Z. Milioti will play Zelda, a lawyer at a small public advocacy firm who is known as a realist. The casting description reads:
"Alternately serious and hilarious, Zelda loves being a grown-up and doesn't understand why anyone over 20 would go see an animated movie or eat ice cream sundaes. Destiny and fate are not in her vocabulary; she believes she controls her own destiny."
The comedy will depict the relationship between Zelda and a man named Andrew (hence the title) as they meet, date and eventually breakup. The description also paints a picture of someone much different than The Mother, for whom destiny and fate play such a crucial role.
Milioti's other credits include one of two lead roles in the Broadway play Once, for which she was nominated for a Tony award for her work as Girl. She also had guest-starring roles on 30 Rock and The Sopranos.
