Lil Wayne created a cult like following for himself when he first released Tha Carter and he was able to maintain that tight knit following. His most recent release from the Carter series, Tha Carter IV, was surprisingly underwhelming but will the YMCMB rapper be able to redeem himself with Tha Carter V?

Earlier this week, Drake sent out a tweet that sent Wayne fans into a frenzy: a subtle heads up for an upcoming release and last night he the nail in the coffin.

While in New Orleans for All-Star Weekend, Drizzy brought Wayne out during a performance at the House of Blues and announced the official release date for Tha Carter V.

According to Drizzy, the album will drop on May 5.

Blogger Karen Civil took to Twitter to confirm the announcement sending out this tweet:

"Drake announced Carter V is dropping May 5th! When we spoke yesterday he mentioned they were 6/8 songs in already."

Cash Money Records Vice President of Promotion Mel Smith spoke on Wayne's upcoming project with The Griffin saying, "We're very close to dropping the album. It's going to be a huge surprise to everyone; it's an incredible album. ... I can't release the date because [Wayne] wants to surprise people; he wants his true fanbase to get excited but he's worked extremely hard on it and you won't be disappointed."

Since Drake has already spilled the beans on Tha Carter V, could Lil Wayne be working on another project? Who knows, Yonce proved anything is possible with the internet.
