With public awareness of The Beatles at an even higher level than usual, it's no surprise that 2014 has turned into Beatles memorabilia auction season. The latest big ticket item announced for sale is a signed copy of Meet The Beatles that belonged to Dr. Jules Gordon, who treated George Harrison for a sore throat prior to the band's iconic Ed Sullivan performance.
Via Rolling Stone:
Though it's an often overlooked part of the "Beatles on Sullivan" story, Harrison was indeed suffering from vocal issues prior to the band's game-changing performance, and he sought out assistance from Gordon, who served as house doctor at New York City's Plaza Hotel from 1942 to 1985. At the time, the New York Times commented on the guitarist-singer's illness, "Mr. Harrison, who is known as the quiet Beatle, awoke yesterday with a sore throat. He was treated by Dr. Jules Gordon, used a vaporizer and rejoined his colleagues at the studio late in the afternoon."
The auction will be handled by RR Auctions. and will run from March 13-20. In addition to the Meet The Beatles album, a rare, signed copy of Twist and Shout, a pair of John Lennon's eyeglasses, and the registration to Lennon's Rolls Royce will be auctioned off.
