Many had been looking forward to the NBA All-Star game with so much anticipation that it seemed near impossible to meet, or top those expectations, but it certainly did. The East rallied back to defeat the West 163-155 as second time All-Star, and Cleveland Cavaliers' player, Kyrie Irving won the MVP award, finishing with 31 points and 14 assists. The likes of Dwight Howard, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony are normally the headlines snatchers, but Kyrie did himself and his team proud, by helping them to win the game with his MVP numbers.
Kyrie's NBA team have had their own problems this season, but he's continously the bright light in the franchise surrounded by shadows of uncertainty, and this performance will only increase the belief that the talented guard is lost in a struggling team like the Cavaliers. On his day he's an elite point guard, and with constant improvement it can't be long before he's recognized as the number one point guard in the NBA. There were many star calibre moments from every player, but it was Kyrie who looked like he truly belonged, even though he was up against the best of the best all night.
With some saying the All-Star weekend is unmissable and irreplaceable, and others saying it's a snooze festival, we now know the latter couldn't of been more wrong. From Friday to Sunday the action packed weekend never disappointed, and it's helped add more credentials to an already glamorous list for Kyrie, who has now certified himself nicely alongside the leagues top players. With the progress the weekend makes each year it's safe to say next years could blow this years out of the water.
