Radiohead's Johnny Greenwood trashes guitar bands for playing their grandparent's instruments

Radiohead guitarist Johnny Greenwood just took a shot at modern guitar bands in the pages of NME. The acclaimed musician accused new bands of playing their grandparent's instruments.

"Guitar bands forming now are often playing the instruments of their grandparent's generation - and often in the same style," Greenwood said. "The Beatles didn't pick up banjos when they started, after all."

"Oh yeah? Well, your band makes needlessly dense schlock that is as boring as it is critically acclaimed," the collective consciousness of guitar bands the world over were heard saying at press time.

Greenwood did come off of his declaration a bit later in the interview.

"I guess, looked at in the right way, things like 808 drum machines are now very old, but still ubiquitous. So maybe it's better to think of all these things as being as current - or as retro - as anything else. I enjoy there being lots of technology to play with, however old it is," he said.
