The Supernatural spinoff entitled Supernatural: Tribes is a go at the CW network, and the ball will get rolling during the 20th episode of Season 9 later this year. Information has already come out about the main characters, but now we have some info about the plot, as well.

The "Mega Buzz" column at TV Guide reports that fans of the original series should have some déjà vu when that 20th episode rolls around in a few months.

"Supernatural: Tribes will air its backdoor pilot in the 20th episode of this season and longtime SPN fans will notice more than a few similarities to the original series' pilot. After the death of a loved one, the show's protagonist, Ennis, is dragged into the world of hunting and monsters. It comes as no surprise that Sam is far more sympathetic to the wannabe cop than his brother when they run into Ennis working a case in Chicago. And while Tribes lacks Supernatural's beloved sibling angst, Ennis has his fair share of Winchester-level daddy issues."

It makes sense for Tribes not to stray too far from the source, at least not initially. The show will likely try to stand on its own, but rooting it in what fans already know is a way to help bring over some of those viewers in the early going.

TVLine recently posted some exclusive details on each of the characters, each of whom will appear in the upcoming 20th episode. Ennis Roth is likely the star of the series. He is "likeable, strong-willed, resolute, with a strong sense of justice." He's the poor son of a police officer and is about to train to become a cop when someone dear to him is murdered. Sam and Dean cross his path and tell him that five monster families run Chicago, and he decides to become a hunter to get revenge. The producers are looking for an African-American actor in his early 20s for the part.
