Singer Robin Thicke and Paula Patton's divorce comes to a surprise for many after the couple announced their split after being together since they were 14. Thicke admitted in 2011 that the couple got married without a prenup before any major success and now his "Blurred Lines" royalties may be in jeopardy.
In 2011, Thicke was asked about prenups in an interview with Billboard.com and said, "I definitely didn't need one, cause my wife earned more than half of everything that I have, but I do believe in some relationships aren't equal financial relationships. It's hard to think now, if I met someone new that I would be able to go into the relationship without that and I'm a romantic and wouldn't plan on marrying someone that I didn't plan on being with forever or wanted her to have half of everything I have including my heart and my soul. I think it's up to the individual. I don't think I ever would."
According to TMZ, the famous pair was having constant arguments, which was the tipping point for Paton, who told Thicke she wanted to separate. The "Lost Without You" singer cancelled his Atlanta show an tried to mend his relationship flying to Vancouver where Patton was filming her latest movie, but Patton reportedly refused.
Ironically, in the same Billboard interview, Thicke was asked for advice on how to keep a long relationship lasting and he answered, "Lingerie is a big help. You gotta go out to dinner, you gotta go out dancing, you gotta go to places and continue to wine and dine her the same way you did when you first met because that's how you keep that spark alive. You gotta try new things and you gotta tell her you love her as much as possible."
