The film Movie 43 is a star-studded, sketch-comedy. Strung together by a desperate screenwriter (Dennis Quaid), the scenes make an unsensible plot that is decorated by acting talent like Kate Winslet, Hugh Jackman, Naomi Watts, Uma Thermon, Emma Stone, and Gerard Butler.
According to the producers of Movie 43, they were able to get so many A-Listers by signing on their friends for the film. Kate Winslet and Hugh Jackson were the first on board and had filmed their scenes four years before the film was produced.
Charles Wessler produced the film, however it took him 15 years to make Movie 43 a reality. The reality of Movie 43 has been a movie-critic's worst nightmare.
A few reviews of the movie:
Richard Roeper titled his review of the film for the Chicago-Sun Times, "There's awful and THEN there's 'Movie 43.'"
"Movie 43 is now the cinematic low-water mark for me," said Peter Howell for The Star. "It's not a "good bad" movie, the kind where you laugh at the incompetence on display. It's simply a terrible movie, the kind that makes you feel lousy for having spent money to see it."
"It's rare to see a piece of shit that actually looks and sounds like a piece of shit. It's kind of exciting!" wrote David Edelstein for Vulture.
Frank Scheck for the Hollywood Reporter wrote, "An awesome array of talent doesn't prevent this witlessly profane anthology of comic shorts from being an utter disaster."
Richard Brody of The New Yorker wrote, "It's as if 'Movie 43' was itself a feature-length f--k-you to Hollywood, a movie made simply to show how bad a movie a studio could be induced to make and actors could be persuaded to act in."
